Go Purple for Child Abuse Prevention Campaign

 

Humber College on October 6, 2010 at 10 am at the Rexdale Campus of the college

October is Child Abuse Prevention Month and Boost Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention is partnering with Humber College and the Canadian Child Care Federation to launch the Go Purple for Child Abuse Prevention Campaign on October 6th, 2010. Events and activites will be held throughout the month of October to raise awareness and provide education to prevent child abuse.

Humber College has been a partner since the inception of the campaign and this year the campaign materials have been created by Humber students. Boost also has a partnership with CTV media and the event will be hosted by CTV reporter, Galit Solomon. Confirmed speakers include: Galit, a graduate of the college, the college president, the director of Boost and a representative from the Canadian Child Care Federation. Other invitees include Mayor David Miller, Chief Bill Blair, Minister Broten and MPP Donna Cansfield. Visit www.boostforkids.org for more information.


New Member Council Representatives

Welcome…

We are pleased to welcome two new Member Council representatives, as of August 1:

Michele Henderson, representing the Manitoba Child Care Association. Michele is past president of MCCA, and has 24 years experience in ECLC. She is currently an instructor in the ECE workplace program at Red River College, and has participated on MCCA Committees and its Board of Directors for 10 years.

Lyn Brown, representing the Saskatchewan Early Childhood Association. Lyn is executive director of SECA, and has 30 years experience in not-for-profit management and administration, grants and proposal writing. She is passionate about early learning and excellence for EL professionals through education and accreditation.

Farewell…

…to Sheila Davidson of ECEBC, who retired at the end of May. We thank Sheila for her important contributions to the early learning and child care sector, and wish her all the best in her new adventures!


Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Education -- Nominations Open


The prestigious Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Education (ECE) program expects to launch a new competition process in the Fall of 2010. If you know an exceptional early childhood educator that deserves national recognition and you wish to receive a copy of the 2010 Guidelines and Nomination Form when released, please complete the online form at www.ic.gc.ca

You can also obtain hard copies of the guidelines and nomination form by calling 613-946-0651 or by sending an email to pmaece-ppmepe@ic.gc.ca. Your name and contact information will then be added to the PMA program’s internal distribution list.
