I Have the Right to Play: National Child Day 2005
a message from Kim Tytler, Health Promotion Manager, CCCF

National Child Day is a day when people across the country take time to celebrate Canada's most precious resource — our children. This year, join us in celebrating the occasion by building awareness of Canada’s commitment to a child’s right to play.

Play models the social framework that builds relationships for life. Play kindles imagination and gives children the chance, in a world where so many carry heavy burdens, to simply be children.

Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child presents the embedded, yet simple message that "children have the right to play."

Celebrating “play”

We encourage you to find ways to celebrate “play” in your National Child Day celebrations and raise awareness of its important link to healthy child development.

Visit the online toolkit at for ideas and inspiration. To be added to our electronic distribution list, send your email address to me. Also, you can send me your ideas and stories to be added to the steadilygrowing“community celebrations” section of the toolkit.

Kim Tytler is health promotion manager at the Canadian Child Care Federation. She can be reached at ktytler@cccf-fcsge.ca or 1-800-858-1412 ext. 242.
